the art of the double cleansing

wax on wax off…

Skincare routine grows with you, changes with you and that’s why it has to be a topic of continuous research and discussion. The quality and hydration of the skin are subject to many factors, such as genetic, environmental, lifestyle and dietary. It is therefore good to consider those factors that depend on us, in particular lifestyle and nutrition. At this moment in my writing, I am 40 years old and I can see that it is true that after 30-35 years your skin changes. In my case, it tends to be drier, less bright and more prone to being impure because of the pores that expand. Before I completely excluded cheese and dairy products from my diet, I had gone through a period of mature acne, exclusively on my forehead (right side). The elimination of dairy products and the intake of 2 liters of water per day were certainly the first steps towards a cleaner skin because you can not expect to act only from the outside. Also, it is good to get rid of the preconceptions and cultural legacies that men do not need to take care of their skin, as you should never allow mental closure to decide for the future of our health. The positive note of the new inclusive and transversal trends, without sexual gender, neutral is precisely that of freeing everyone from labels and impositions. That’s why today I’m writing about double cleansing, a renowned method to remove make-up, but which is actually suitable for anyone who wants to have clean skin in depth. Make-up for many men is the environmental pollution that is deposited on the pores of our skin and that if not removed, goes to sleep with us. We owe the origin of this method to Japan and Korea (we are talking about the 14th century!): how do you think the geishas took care of their skin under that thick layer of makeup and powder?

‘To wash your hair, apply your makeup and put on clothes that are well-scented with incense. Even if you’re somewhere where no one special will see you, you still feel a heady sense of pleasure inside.’

Tonymoly VitalVita 12 Cleansing Balm

Step 1: Double cleansing is especially recommended in the evening, to ensure that you have cleaned your face thoroughly helping to remove sunscreen residue, makeup, and detoxify the skin from pollution. At this time I am using Tonymoly’s balm “Vital Vita 12 purifying cleansing balm“, packed with 12 types of vitamins (A, B1, B3, B5, B6, B8, B12, C,E,F,H) and volcanic ash to fight clogged pores. You need a pea size of the balm, you rub it into your face, and the balm with turn into a gentle oil:

It’s important to follow up emulsifying with a bit of water: it will lather and create a gentle emulsion. I am generous also around the area around the eyes because I found out that my eyelids feel fresher and definitely more relaxed after the massage.

Foreo Luna & Cerave Washing Gel

Step 2: Eventually you can wash your face with your preferred wash gel or mousse. I like to switch between different ones, and since one year I am using the foaming facial cleansing by CeraVe and the Alla Cleanser for Man by Whamisa (you can read my review here ).  CeraVe has created one of the best and delicate wash gel ever with top ingredients as niacinamide (improves the texture of your skin and pores), ceramides (lipid mixture that helps to have a better skin tone) and hyaluronic acid. I apply a pump of product directly into my Foreo Luna and I gently massage my face. I finally rinse with lukewarm water and pat my face with a clean towel.
